BASIC COSMETOLOGY COURSE
OBJECTIVES:
The basic Cosmetology course is designed to prepare students for the state board licensing examination. The course'offers training in hairdressing skills and their practical applications preparing graduates for entry-level employ-(ment in a beauty salon. The Academy will focus on each individual and help one grow and develop into a successful professional.
DESCRIPTION:
The training encompasses all phases of cosmetology including haircutting and styling, permanent waving and relaxing, haircoloring, scalp and hair treat-ments, manicuring, facials and make-up. Both theory and practical applica-tions are taught by the instructional staff and supplemented by special classes. Opportunities for supervised practical work with the public are provided in the Academy's clinic.
LENGTH & OUTLINE:
The course is 1500 clock hours in length. An outline of the course includes:
GENERAL - 300 hours
Sterilization, sanitation, bacteriology, anatomy, psychology, state law, shop ethics, personality, salesmanship, and salon psychology.
PHYSICAL - 600 hours
Shampooing and rinsing, hair and scalp care, hair shaping, hair dressing and styling, facials, arching, lash and brow tinting, manicuring and pedicuring.
CHEMICAL - 600 hours
Permanent waving, chemical relaxing, hair coloring, bleaching and toning. sculpturing nails, hair structure, and chemistry.

MANICURE COURSE - MADISON SCHOOL ONLY
OBJECTIVES: Upon the completion of this course, the student will have demonstrated competencies required to pass the state board examination and the ability to:
(1) Understand the science of professional nail care and nail art.
(2) Help develop a professional attitude and responsibility toward work, for gainful employment in a salon.
DESCRIPTION:
A study of the basic principles of manicuring, nail art, and pedicuring, that includes a basic understanding of the chemistry of nails, and the products used in their care and beauty.
LENGTH OF COURSE, FORMAT, AND PRACTICAL SERVICES REQUIRED:
The course is 600 clock hours in length. The course will be a combination of lectures, demonstrations and student participation. Students will demon-strate their knowledge of theory of nails, the practical skill, and the completion of the required number of services. Instruction will be supplemented with guest artists, visual aids, and other instructional techniques.
